November 19, 2006 Potty Training 101

Kendall started officially potty training the beginning of last week, November 6th. She had been going at home here and there when she would ask to go or we would work on it a little if she wanted to on the weekends but now she has started wearing pull ups and going to the potty at school. She has been doing very well. We are so proud of her! At the end of the first week she would be dry all day. In the evening she may have an accident here and there and not tell us she needed to go until right after she went. Or she would sometimes just not want to stop watching her movie or playing to go and try to potty. A few times she even got off the potty and then went, but this second week she has done so well it's really surprising. Sometimes, she will even tell you when she has to go. If I ask her if she has to go because I think she may and want her to try, she may tell me she doesn't have to and usually she is right. Big girl panties will be the next step, maybe in another week or so we can give it a try if things continue to progress at this rate! Her success may just be that the new experience is still exciting, or maybe the hand washing, she likes that part too, but keep your fingers crossed!

On a different note, yesterday on the way to school, Kendall was rubbing her eye as if it was bothering her, she must have had an eyelash, sleep or something in it as she kept rubbing her eye. As she continued to rub it, she told me her eye was broken. I asked her again to make sure I had heard her correctly and she was definitely saying her eye was broken! I said you mean it hurts? She said "Yes Mommy, hurts. She's so smart! No one has ever used that phrase but she understands when something is broken and applied it to the feeling in her eye! She still amazes me daily!
