June 18, 2009 Kendall lost her first tooth!

Kendall has been wiggling her loose tooth, well one of them anyway, she has several, for about 3 weeks now. One or two of her friends at school have lost a tooth and now her cousin Alex has lost one too. So she has been really working on it! I noticed this morning that it had progressed past the standstill it has been at for the past two weeks, so I knew it wouldn't be long now. Well, it came out at school. She was biting on her backpack, something I continually tell her to stop doing, and it came out. When I got there the director handed me her tooth in a cute little tooth container on a string. Kendall was sitting over there with a bloody paper towel in her mouth as it had just happened, probably about the time I left the house. I would have been there but I worked about 15 mins over today, of course! Although, while I hate that I missed being there for her to loose her first tooth and see her reaction, at the same time I'm kind of glad I wasn't there to witness this milestone. I don't know why, but as I get older I have gotten more squeamish about things, the whole wiggling the tooth for the past few weeks has really grossed me out!

June 13, 2009 Kendall's first field trip-Louisville Science Center

Kendall went on her first field trip! I think she was more excited about riding the school bus than the actual field trip! Mommy went with her to make sure they didn't lose her, school field trips make me nervous. I've been at the zoo too many times and seen schools on field trips with the teachers not having any idea two or three kids just went off in a different direction. They did a pretty good job but there were times Kendall darted off or she and I were looking at something only to look up and the girl we were supposed to be with was hard to find. In her defense she also had a girl with Downs syndrome that was giving her quite a bit of trouble darting off on her own but that wouldn't make loosing my child any less terrifying. Or maybe she figured I was with her and she didn't need to keep up with her, but there were others darting off that weren't immediately caught either so I will be attending field trips until Kendall is older. But Kendall and I had a good time, we got to see parts of the Science Center we haven't seen before and watched Animalopolis in the IMAX theatre. Overall it was a fun day!
Kendall and her friends on the bus. She was riding right up front behind the driver with the best view!
Kendall in a bubble! She pulled it so fast it was hard for Mommy to catch her before it popped!

June 10, 2009 Growing by leaps and bounds

Kendall has started the summer program at her elementary school. She absolutely LOVES it! She rushes me every morning to get ready to leave so she can get there. She falls asleep on the way home every afternoon and then falls asleep while she's doing her breathing treatment at night. She has been asleep by 8:15 every night this week! She is having so much fun and they are just on day three! They will go swimming two days a week and take field trips to the Louisville Science Center, the Louisville Zoo, Butler State Park and Atlantis Water Park. They will also have days to bring your bike to school and have field days. The director told me today that she is definitely ready for kindergarten this fall, their teacher was telling her how surprised she was at how far along Kendall's group is already, they already knew all of the beginning review subjects and are ready to start learning the real lessons to keep them up to speed and get them ready for kindergarten next year. Such a smart girl, of course, we already knew that!! :o)

She is also about to lose her first tooth. She has several loose but one of the bottom front teeth is really loose, she goes around wiggling it and showing everyone how loose it is, which kind of grosses me out. Why do you get squeamish when you grow up? Things that never bothered me or things I even found interesting when I was younger now kind of bother me! Where did that come from??

She played soccer again this year and still loves it. She did really well, her coach said she was most improved. However, for the first few games for some reason she took a while to get warmed up and play any where near as well as she did last year. Once she caught the fever she was right in there again.

She had her graduation from preschool and wore her cap and gown. She was so cute! But she looked so grown up! She received the most improved award from her teacher!

She is just sounding so grown up! She just makes me laugh!!

June 2, 2009 Kendall's first real talk about Adoption

Kendall has made some comments and asked some questions before, but never really listened when I tried to explain or answer her questions. Today, Kendall asked her first questions about where she came from and listened and asked more questions when I answered her. She told me babies grow in Mommies bellies and asked if she grew in my belly. After having 4 1/5 - 5 yrs to think about how to answer this question, my mind went blank on how to tell her, how to explain it so she could understand, and where to begin. I told her that she didn't grow in my belly, she was extra special. I explained how she knows Mommy's belly is sick all of the time and how that wasn't a good place for her to grow so she had to grow in someone else's belly, then the lady gave her to Mommy b/c she knew Kendall was Mommy's baby girl and belonged to Mommy & Daddy. She asked what the lady's name was and where she lived while she was growing in her belly, did she live with us? I explained that she was a very nice lady named Melissa and she lived in her own house. And that Mommy and Daddy had our house and got all of Kendall's things ready for her, painted her room pretty, got her bed and clothes ready, all her stuffed animals. She wanted to know where her stuffed animals were, to which I pointed around the room and replied EVERYWHERE! ....and she laughed. I told her we were there waiting when she came out of the lady's belly and the lady gave her to us right away b/c she knew Kendall was our baby girl and belonged with us. She seemed satisfied with that for now and was ready to go back to watching her movie/getting ready for school.
